Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all my friends family and listeners -
and to all the artists who featured on my shows this year.

I will produce a list (more than 60 I think) of all the acts featured - doing everything yourself of course means  that I have little time to write a blog , but will do more next year  - and also contact some of the great bands that will feature next year.

Some of the fabulous christmas tunes by blueneck this month can be heard here
http://www.facebook.com/BlueneckUK

thanks for luke for producing and aron and pete
hope to have more of the sessions that have featured on the somer valley website soon.

also thanks to all who came to the quiz at the wunderbar last wednesday night - great fun as
always!
have a great christmas

A Glastonbury couple are looking for a musical act for a very special concert at the beginning of September. The Hawthorns Charity Art-Start Hoedown runs on Sunday the 4th September in the Hawthorns, Glastonbury and is to celebrate the opening day of an art exhibition by rising Glastonbury artist Sarah Stanislaus.

The music will run from 3pm – 10pm and while entry is free, donations taken on the day will got to a local charity, The Martha Care Trust. Further to this 15% of the money raised selling the artworks over the course of the exhibition will also go to Martha Care while a further 10% of the art commission will go to the Disasters Emergency Commission in aid of the Somlian Famine.

Acts confirmed so far on the day;

Mr Keep Calm – ex Keeps frontman and protest singer

Rich Maya – A mixture of delicately performed original and cover material

North & South – Lively covers duo

Leigh Wright – Intense, introspective singer-songwriter

Taterdemalion – Lively folk band

Robin Gray – All round entertainer

Gary Smith, co-organiser, explained more; “We still have at least one gap of around 30 – 45 minutes that we need to fill and we’re looking for an acoustic act of 1-3 people who can offer something different. So far we’ve got a good variety of excellent artists and it promises to be a great day of music for all tastes.

Local artist Sarah Stanislaus has exhibited in various galleries around the county and this is her first large exhibition in Glastonbury. The Hawthorns exhibition runs from September the 4th until the 1st October. For more information see http://www.sarahstanislausart.co.uk/

The Martha Care Trust (www.marthacare.co.uk) is a local charity that helps to look after families with children in hospital. This can involve benefits and housing advice where families live away from the hospitals.

If there are any solo artists, duo’s or trio’s who would like to play please email Gary at mrkeepcalm@yahoo.co.uk or contact the Facebook page for the event “The Hawthorns Charity Art-Start Hoedown” http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=223366451041548.

Please ensure you give contact phone number, name, brief bio and links to sound or, better still, video files. With this being a charity event please note it will be unpaid.

Organisers Gary Smith and Sarah Stanislaus have a record in setting up charity events in and around Glastonbury and are immersed in the local art and music scene.

Gary Smith plays as Mr Keep Calm and has recently completed an 8 weeks songwriting project, taking a Monday morning news story and having 10 hours to write and record a song with video posted onto youtube. MP3’s are being sold for Martha Care from http://mrkeepcalm.bandcamp.com

Sarah Stanislaus has recently completed a successful large solo exhibition and her bespoke commissioned artworks are in high demand.
